Nanni Balestrini (Milan 1935 \u2013 Rome 2019), poet, novelist, and visual artist, was one of the most significant figures of the Italian neo-avant-garde. Since the 1960s, he was among the Novissimi<\/em> and an active member of Gruppo 63<\/em>. He was a pioneer in digital experimentation, creator of the first poem using an IBM computer in 1961, and author of his celebrated Cronogrammi<\/em>.<\/p>\n

He contributed to the founding of the cultural magazines Il Verri<\/em>, Quindici<\/em>, Alfabeta<\/em>, Zoooom<\/em>, and Azimuth<\/em>. He is the author of the poetry cycle Signorina Richmond<\/em> and the political trilogy La Grande Rivolta<\/em> (We Want Everything<\/em>, The Invisibles<\/em>, The Publisher<\/em>), key novels about the struggles of the 1970s.<\/p>\n

Alongside narrative and poetry, he developed an extensive visual research \u2014 from collage to text-image \u2014 documented in the monograph With the Eyes of Language<\/em>. He exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Italy and abroad, taking part, among others, in the Venice Biennale (1993) and in Documenta 13 (2012) with the project Tristanoil<\/em>.<\/p>\n

He was the author of permanent installations such as the Lala<\/em> station (Naples) and the Incipit<\/em> stele (Vignola). He collaborated with Galleria Michela Rizzo from 2010, curating solo exhibitions such as Bastacani<\/em> (2011), Tristanoil<\/em> (2013), and The Perfect Storm<\/em> (2015).<\/p>\n
